This Is Where We Landed

Had a great experience at AVVAs! Loved the authentic South Indian food — we had the Ghee Roast Mix Veg Dosa and Ghee Roast Onion Dosa, both were delicious and reasonably priced. A nice touch was the welcome drink of rasam — warm, comforting, and full of flavor. We also had a Peach Iced Tea and an Iced Latte. There was a small mix-up with the coffee (vanilla ice cream vs flavor), but the staff handled it very politely and professionally. The vibe of the cafe is great, and I’ll definitely be coming back!

AVVAs  is hands down one of my favorite spots in Bir, and I’d say it’s a favorite for almost every tourist who visits! It comes highly recommended by both locals and fellow travelers, and after visiting, I can definitely see why. The cafe is located in a great spot, with wonderful seating arrangements both inside and outside, allowing you to enjoy the atmosphere regardless of the weather. They serve the best South Indian food in the area, and their menu is not only diverse but also quite affordable. I tried their Chicken Kheema Dosa and Chicken Biryani, and both dishes were incredibly tasty, definitely some of the best meals I’ve had. To top it off, I had a refreshing drink, which made the entire experience even better. If you’re ever in Bir, AVVAs  is an absolute must-try for anyone craving authentic, mouthwatering South Indian food. It’s a gem in the town, and I can’t wait to visit again!

This cafe is truly an unmissable experience for food lovers. From the moment you step in, the warmth of the place wraps around you, much like its food, which feels like a comforting hug from home. You’re welcomed with a delightful surprise: a small serving of kala chana and rasam—a bold, flavorful start that sets the tone for what’s to come. The menu offers a wide range of classic South Indian dishes, each crafted with authenticity and care. Standouts include the Chettinad appe, sabudana khichdi, masala idli, and of course, their signature filter coffee, which is rich, strong, and aromatic. The vadai and idlis are exceptionally well made—soft, spongy, and incredibly satisfying. The chutneys, especially, deserve a special mention; so fresh and flavorful, you’ll find yourself going back for refills (as I shamelessly did!). Beyond the food, the ambiance adds to the charm. The café offers a variety of seating options: cozy indoor corners, glass-covered areas perfect for a rainy afternoon, a peaceful garden space, and even an upstairs section for a breezy view. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of South Indian cuisine or just in search of soulful, wholesome food, this café in Bir is an absolute must-visit. Come hungry—you’ll want to try everything.

I will never be done with this place. One of the best places serving dosas and south indian meals in all of Bir, may be even all of himachal. TBH, I have visited Bir just for Avva’s cafe at times. They will welcome you with Rassam and boiled chana. Its difficult to chose the best out of their menu since everything is made to perfection. I still order Chettinad or Avva’s special dosa paired with buttermilk more often than anything else. I have met the owner and his son a couple of times and they are warm and lively. Never met the ‘Avva’ yet whose recipes have created such wonderful food (hopefully I will). They have recently expanded and added parking space as well as a few tables. The place is walking distance from bir landing site. Avva’s is a must visit in Bir.
